WHAKAORANGA – Whānau Recovery Hub
Inspiring hope and freedom from addiction
Providing tikanga-based, clinical, bespoke education to enhance the mana and connection of whaiora. Started in 2020 by a young Māori wahine with lived experience, we combine kaupapa Māori approaches with clinical expertise

Our Services
AOD Counseling
Our qualified AOD clinicians provide one-on-one and group counselling sessions that blend evidence-based therapeutic approaches with kaupapa Māori principles. These sessions help whaiora understand their addiction, develop coping strategies, and build emotional resilience on their recovery journey.
Peer Support
Our peer support workers bring powerful lived experience to guide whaiora through recovery, offering practical advice, emotional support, and hope based on their own transformation journeys. This peer-to-peer approach creates authentic connections and demonstrates that lasting recovery is achievable.
Treatment Referral Pathways
We work closely with a network of trusted partners including Corrections, Ministry of Justice, healthcare providers, and community services to ensure seamless referrals and wraparound support. These established pathways help whaiora access the right level of care at the right time, from crisis intervention to long-term recovery support.
Therapeutic Housing
We developed a partnership with Freedom Whare Ltd to provide AOD focused therapeutic housing for whaiora engaged in our programs. This collaboration ensures access to safe, stable, and recovery-focused accommodation, giving whaiora a secure base to focus on healing.
OUR PROGRAMMES
Kaupapa Māori Recovery Programmes That Transform Lives
Our programmes provide kaupapa Māori education and support for Mental Health and Addiction (AOD), based on our core values: Tino Rangatiratanga, Wairuatanga, Tikanga, Manaakitanga, and Whanaungatanga. We use clinical and tikanga-based methods to design safe, bespoke learning spaces where whaiora may re-establish their identity, develop resilience, and start their journey to addiction recovery.
